The Story

This extraordinary 60-year-old vintage rug from Taznakht carries a profound story of tradition, resilience, and craftsmanship. Handwoven by a Berber woman inside a cave near Taznakht and signed on the backing with her name, Abdelziz Amir. This piece reflects a way of life deeply connected to nature and community.
The Berber people, also known as Amazigh, are sheep herders and weavers, known for their artistic skills in textiles as well as their nomadic way of life.  They relied on wool to create everything they needed - rugs, blankets, and clothing—using skills passed down through generations.
The artist, a widow, wove this rug as a labor of love and later gave it to her daughter as a wedding present.  Though the family had a home, the cave remained a cherished gathering place, where the art of weaving continued. Decades later, the family decided to part with this heirloom to purchase essential supplies, entrusting us with its extraordinary legacy.
Rich in history, texture, and meaning, this truly one-of-a-kind piece is more than just a rug; it’s a piece of Berber heritage and memories of a family that has stood the test of time. Bring its warmth and story into your home, and let its journey continue.
