The Story

Cooperative Anthology

This rug holds a special place in our hearts as it is the very first piece by Cooperative Anthology, our co-op based in the village of M’Hamid, which we consider our home in Morocco.
This Boucherouite-style Moroccan rug, is a vibrant testament to creativity, resilience, and tradition.  The nomadic families of M'hamid, located at the southern edge of the Sahara Desert, have a rich tradition of weaving that reflects their deep connection to nature and their way of life. Their weaving traditions are passed down through generations, with each piece telling a story through geometric patterns, symbolic motifs, and vibrant tones.
Originally woven by rural Moroccan women as an alternative to traditional wool or silk carpets, Boucherouite rugs embrace sustainability by repurposing fabric scraps, old clothing, and synthetic yarns into unique, colorful masterpieces.
The name “Boucherouite” stems from the French word boucher, meaning “rag” or “scrap,” yet these rugs are anything but ordinary. Each piece tells a story, reflecting the ingenuity of artisans who transform everyday materials into bold, abstract designs rich in character and history.
With its soft texture and eclectic mix of patterns and colors, this rug adds warmth, personality, and a one-of-a-kind charm to any space. Whether styled in a modern or bohemian setting, this eco-friendly, handwoven creation is a stunning example of Moroccan craftsmanship, honoring the past while embracing sustainable practices for the future.  Add a pop of color to your wood floors or hang it on the wall like Denise did!
